Fun at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center

Fun at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center-HappyGirlLife

Whenever I think of being up close and personal with animals, Jurassic Park comes to mind; and well, we all know how that turns out.  So, needless to say, I had mixed emotions when my boyfriend suggested going on an adventure safari following a recent camping trip.  But, boy oh boy did we have fun at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas.

Located about an hour and a half southwest of Dallas, Fossil Rim is a fun and completely up close animal experience.  For two hours, you drive your personal vehicle through an oasis of trees, sunshine, and inquisitive animals.  If you choose to purchase the food mix that the park sells at the from desk, then you’ll be allowed to feed the animals, giving you the opportunity for some amazing, up close photos.

Since it’s customary for cars to drive through, the park’s inhabitants are very people friendly and will walk directly up to your car and peek their heads inside to greet you.  We opened the car’s sunroof when we approached the giraffes, and to my amusement, Pablo was given a giant wet kiss from a long-legged beauty.  I can’t say that he was too thrilled with getting giraffe kisses, but I thought it was hysterical.

I could go on and on about how much fun we had, but instead, here are some photos from our time at Fossil Rim for your enjoyment:

It looks like you had a great view of the animals. We used to have a drive through safari here in NJ but they closed it unfortunately.

This is so fun! I’ve never been to this kind of animal park before but I’m sure my kids would love it too- if they didn’t get scared. Maybe in a couple of years when we’re in the area we’ll have to check it out.

You lived in Zambia? How cool is that! I’m sure nothing compares to a real, African safari.

These photos are stunning, it looks like the animals all loved having their time in the spot light. I love going to aminal parks – too much fun to get up close to see them.

We are definitely going to add this to our visit list for the summer. It gets tiring and boring doing the same old things year after year – this is definitely not the same old thing! Thank you!

Animal parks are always fun to visit. Love the pictures you have posted here. I feel they have more space to move around in an animal park compared to a zoo.
