One Focus Word for 2018

New Year, Happy New Year, One Word, One Focus Word, 2018, One Focus Word for 2018

Well, we did it – we conquered the ups, downs, and in-betweens of 2017. With the close of one year, comes the beginning of another and guess what? 2018 is going to be great!

I personally don’t participate in New Year’s resolutions, but I do use each new year as motivation to set some well-defined short term goals. Each January, I come up with a list of concrete goals that I will set out to accomplish by April. However, in addition to setting short term goals, I’m adding something new this year…one focus word for 2018.

I had a reader comment on one of my recent blog posts about her annual focus word. At the beginning of each year she picks a word that she will focus on – using that one word to drive her actions and intentions for the next 365 days. I love this idea so much that I’ve decided to try it out this year.

I’ve decided that my one focus word for 2018 is…

FREEDOM.

This is the word that I will use to direct my decisions and keep me centered. And a word that I will think of when I’m put in a position to make decisions big and small.

We all have areas of our lives where we want to experience more freedom; whether it’s financial freedom, freedom in our careers, freedom from insecurities, freedom from fear, freedom from worrying, freedom from failure, freedom to dream big, freedom to succeed, or freedom to just be our most authentic selves. Most of my defined goals this year can all be summed up by this one word, so I’m making it my primary focus for the next 12 months.

What word will you choose to focus on this year? Send me a message or contact me on social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) to let me know! Also, be sure to check out the hashtags #oneword365 #oneword2018 to see what other people around the world have chosen as their 2018 words – maybe they’ve chosen the same one as you!

Still working on my word for the year. It’s a hard thing to figure out for me as I always set a series of goals and try to stick to those. If I was to pick a word I think it would be consistency. I always start a new thing and then have trouble keeping up with it on a daily basis.
Wishing you all the best as you focus on freedom!

My word for the year is “experience.” I will be graduating college this year, moving to a new city and starting a new job. I am very excited for all the new experiences that await me.

I actually do both personal and blogging goals. Resolutions are meant to be broken! I have yet to come up with my one word for 2018. I love your word FREEDOM, it can mean so many things. I wish you all the best.

I just wrote down my goals for this year and I’m so excited to get started. As for my one word well, I don’t have just one word I really need to take a moment to sit back and figure that word out soon so I can focus, react, and conquer.

I think ‘freedom’ is a cool focus word for 2018, and I can definitely relate to that one. Shedding the obstacles, stress and fear that holds you back in life is definitely beneficial for moving forward in the new year. For me, I think ‘productivity’ is the word for me. I want to stay productive in business, new ventures that I have planned, sticking to New Year resolutions, and with life, in general.

Ah greeeeaaaat, I’ve now wasted a lot of time checking out that hashtag! LOL
There’s a teacher online who allowed all of her students to write their #oneword2018 on the wall of the classroom- pretty cool idea and laid back teacher to permit such a thing.
Anyway, I think my word may be Mindfulness. I want to focus more on being entirely present, especially with my children, and living in the moment instead of mentally flitting from task to task. I find, when entirely relaxed, I truly revel in the smallest details of daily life and I want to live in a permanent state of that. So that’s my big focus for 2018, being mindful in my home, relationships, family and work. Everything with focus and purpose.

Haha! It’s addictive, right! That’s so cool that teachers and students are getting involved in the challenge. I can see that being a great activity for kids.

Mindfulness is one thing that I strive for daily! It’s such a great thing to practice and can really re-center and focus you. I love that you’re working on being more present. It can be so difficult to do that sometimes. Best of luck this year on your search for mindfulness!

Hmm. Freedom. Interesting choice. I’ve never had a word of the year. I’ve always seen people creating one in the beginning of the year. I thought of Balance – something I really wanted as a mom. Gosh, I hope I can really make it happen. That 2018 is the year achieve balance.

I LOVE Freedom for this year’s word! My word for this year is “BRAVE.” Late last year, I left an unsafe, unfulfilling relationship and moved from Canada to Hawaii, left my high-paying job, everything that was comfortable, conventional, and “safe.” So I need to be brave to move on, to heal and to thrive with all the changes in this new year.

Oh my goodness, you’re a rockstar! That’s a lot of change in one year and you are definitely the personification of the word “brave”!

I am so happy for you and am so excited to follow your journey! Hawaii is beautiful. Which part did you move to? I was just in Kauai in September.

I like your word for this year! As for me, the past years have been a whirlwind with work and travels so my focus word would rather be “RELAX”. I need to take some more chill days to stop traveling and working.

That’s a great pick! Sometimes it good to just step back from all obligations and relax. I like that one!

This sounds like a reasonable alternative to resolutions since most of us don’t keep them anyway. I’ll definitely put some thought into what I want my word to be.
